I completed the quest (Strength of Snow) once. Imagine my shock and surprise when no Mini Polar Bear was to be found from the chest. Fortunately, the MPB is just a waste of a storage slot to me, but I obtained plenty of CCS's for the finale. Congrats to any of you who got one, and better luck next year if you did not.

Not really. Most items still cost the same as before.

Anybody with 10 shards had enough for all 9 finales . I gained about 25 shard doing 7 finales.

I am aware of that, yes. I have multiple accounts, but one run still sufficed. Maybe I should have saved some since ANet is repeating the finale. Meh.

Oh right, I was under the impression the price had halved.

Still, that many runs for a chance at 1300e? Psh.

Think about it. If you can earn 1.5-2k a minute doing ANY kind of farming, you're making more money than doing runs of Snowman and not getting a polar.

Where are you farming? The average, and I'm being very conservative here, is 10-20k an hour. Some of the ripoff artists might be able to hit your 90-120k trading with 12 year olds all day but a real farm run is nowhere near those numbers barring miracle drops.

I did 60ish runs, got my MPB and stopped. Btw farming sucks. If you can convince me you can make 2k per minute consistently I'm game. That means not relying on the odd weekend events or luck of a random fluke drop. It needs to be practical and realistic. If it ain't reproducible it ain't worth it's weight in gold and you don't know what you're talking about.

You don't even get 1.5k-2k per minute from Strength of Snow. This is an easy math problem, so let's solve it. I'm making a lot of assumptions here, but this is a good approximation if the estimated wiki drop rate is in the ballpark. The real payout is probably worse, because I'm not considering things like loading time and I'm being very generous in pricing.

Completion: 6 minutes, no cons (10x/hr.)
Return: 4 guaranteed items. Assume Spiked is 300g, Fruitcake is 150g, Summoner is 200g, Wintergreen is 250g. That's 900g.
+/- 15 Candy Cane Shards @ 70g/ea = 1,050g.
Average guaranteed: 1,950g.

Assuming the wiki 1/3000 MPB drop rate and a value of 10,500,000g (1400e @ 7.5k/e): the opportunity to get one is worth 3,500g. Call the other drops worth 250g on average, yielding an expected drop value of 3,750g.

So the farm is 5,700g per run, 57k per hour, or just under 1k/minute.

That's not bad; that would make it the best solo farm going, comparable to the nerfed Vaettir keg run during an event with multiple, desirable event drops. It gets blown out of the water by dungeon running, succeeding at Snowball ATs (semifinals or better, with enough wins to offset the odd quarterfinal loss), and power trading.

But many people are risk averse, and know that in practice they're going to walk away with about 22k per hour. That's not worth your time if you're even remotely skilled.

You could also do it because:

1) You enjoy the quest
2) Don't really need money
3) Really want a MPB

Ok, well, 230 runs this year across 2 accounts... and no bear for me.

Kinda sucks that peeps run like 50 runs and then get one, wtf makes them so special...

Oh well. It's almost Wintersday again.

He wrote "ANY farming", emphasis his. Think about it...can you really reliably make 2k/min in PvP year round? People do play GW upwards of 10 hours a day and that would be an easy million a day even if you took breaks.

Also, sitting away in a town and providing a service are not the same thing as loot/gold gathering. No need to break out the Merriam-Webster here either.

I got one, but it wasn't polar, but bi-polar. So it got angry over something stupid and ran away.
This days everyone's crazy.

Didn't get my MPB, but I did make 90k worth of Candy Cane Shards from doing some casual farming throughout the event. Which is about 85k more than I thought I'd get at the start, so that was a loverly surprise.

My shameless bump to resurrect my old drop rate thread for the mini polar bear from last year. Lets see if we can keep tabs on any drops this year ladies and gents. Good luck!

I've had one dropped for me this morning. Only did 4 runs to get him this year . I'm so glad I got him, this way I can spend more time doing other things than just do the quests over and over again.
